She is Ireland’s “model du jour” so who better to help promote “Get Back: The Story of The Beatles” for their recent shows in Dublin, than traffic stopping model Georgia Salpa. I was commissioned by Ian Smith, the producer of the Get Back show, to shoot a version of the iconic “Abbey Road” album cover for some press photos, replacing George Harrison with Georgia Salpa.
As most of the zebra crossings in Dublin have now disappeared, we had to make our own one for the shoot using white vinyl strips. Then we needed a street that looked similar to the original with not much traffic passing through it, difficult to find in Dublin these days! Thankfully Shrewsbury Road in Ballsbridge provided the almost perfect backdrop. With a little autumn sunshine and a big thanks to PD for providing the white VW Beetle, we got pretty close to the original iconic shot.
Check out my shot compared to the original, and a little video clip someone shot on the day.
“Get Back: The Story of The Beatles” returns to the Tivoli, Dublin for more shows from January 19 until February 14, 2012. http://www.tivoli.ie
I had the great pleasure of recently working on the new Crystal Swing video for their single, a cover Bonnie Tyler’s 1980′s smash hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart”. I was asked to produce a number of new press images for the band that would be consistent with the video, and a possible cover image for the single.
It’s the first time I’ve shot still photography on a proper video production. It was a bit of challenge, mainly to get the three members of Crystal Swing in the one spot for any given length of time so they could be photographed together. Due to the tight schedule demanded by shooting video, one or all of the members were involved in shooting a scene at some point.
The video production took place over two days during Easter weekend in a derelict three storey mansion on Dublin’s northside. The video was produced and directed by Peter Foott. Peter and his team worked incredibly hard yet still created a great buzz on set making the whole experience great fun and hardly like work at all.
In case you’re reading this wondering who Crystal Swing are? They’re a singing family, featuring mother Mary, daughter Dervla and son Derek, from Middleton in Co. Cork. They became an overnight internet sensation last year when the video for their single “She Drinks Tequila” received millions of hits on Youtube.
Enjoy the new photography and video. Here’s to a Crystal Swing Number 1.
My first video blog! Here’s some video I shot back in August of “Get Back – The Story of The Beatles” sold out show, which ran for five nights in the Olympia Theatre, Dublin.
The video has been edited to a 30 second piece for promotion. If you like the music of the Beatles, then this show is an absolute must see.
“Get Back – The Story of the Beatles” traces the band from humble beginnings in the Cavern in Liverpool to LSD inspired Sergeant Pepper’s to the legendary performance on the rooftop, with all the classic tunes thrown in.
I shot all the live footage with my Canon 5D Mark 2 which handled the low light levels brilliantly. Looking forward to shooting more video in the future. Enjoy the show….
Posting this from the beautiful surroundings of La Cueva, a bar in Tarifa, Spain, owned by my friend Scott MacNaughton. Wanted to get a post in for June, before the month runs out.
The light in Dublin has been great lately with the recent good weather. Here’s a beautiful daylight shot of classical pianist Finghin Collins, which we shot for his upcoming album artwork. Finghin recorded his album in the National Concert Hall and the image was taken in an old part of the building which is now unused. Looking forward to seeing the finished artwork for Finghin’s album, which will be produced by Claves Records from Switzerland (my first client from Switzerland!).
Will post up some shots of the stunning locations in Tarifa, there are amazing locations here for so many shoots. Tarifa is a old Moorish town at the southern tip of Spain, well known for it’s beaches, bars and kite surfing.
Hoping to shoot some test fashion (swimwear) around Marbella later this week. It’s a tough life……
Question: How do you make a traditional Irish ceili band look slick and sexy? Answer: Easy….just send them to me!
This is a job I shot a while back for the Innisfree Ceili Band for their lastest CD cover artwork. It was a miserable morning weather wise over the summer in the Wicklow mountains but we managed to get some beautiful pictures in the end. I applied some interesting retouching techniques to give the pictures a traditional yet contemporary feel.
A big thanks to my buddy and photographer Peter Evers for helping out with the location in Annamoe.
